- Synopsis: The completion of the trans-Alaska pipeline marked the end of the costliest private enterprise in commercial history. The pipeline carries oil south from the North Slope of Alaska, across 800 miles of frozen tundra, mountains, forests and rivers, to the ice-free port of Valdez. This BAFTA-nominated film tells the story of this unique feat of engineering and of the care taken to protect the environment during the pipeline's construction, which will continue throughout its operation. It is also the story of the courage and endurance of the men who worked in one of the world's most hostile climates to complete this unprecedented project on schedule.
