- Synopsis: From South Africa to Turkey stretches one of the most impressive features of our planet, the Great Rift Valley. In Kenya it contains, like puddles in a vast ditch, a string of remarkable lakes. They are remarkable for their beauty, their variety, and their wildlife. there is crystal clear, freshwater Lake Naivasha, with its papyrus swamps containing a galaxy of brilliant and extraordinary birds, like the malachite kingfisher and purple gallinule. Carpets of lilies are both the home of the lily-trotter and hunting ground for The Fish Eagle. In contrast, Lake Nakura, not far up the valley, is green with algae making it ideal for flamingos, 2 million of them - a fantastic spectacle. Further north is Lake Rudolph, a huge, remote 'sea' in the desert. It too has its own particular features, like the black heron with its extraordinary fishing technique.
