Synopsis:On 1st May 1951 fire broke out on drilling well No.20 at Naft Safid, Iran. It was the first time in 50 years of drilling in Persia that such a thing happened.
RIG 20 shows the battle which was waged for 5 weeks against one of the most dramatic fires in oil history, and man's final success against the forces of nature. The scene of an explosion flowed by the upward rush of 1/2 mile of 4 1/2 steel pipe is one of the most remarkable ever filmed.
Awarded first prize at the Venice Film Festival of 1952.
